Mystery Teachings on Awakening from ancient Egypt
RA-HORAKTI: Become the sun rising in the eastern horizon
As the sun rises in the land of Egypt it often appears red, due to the particles of sand in the atmosphere. The red sun appears in many ancient depictions on the wooden sarcophagi, the temple walls, and papyruses.
I have had the privilege of observing the red sun during a visit to the Karnak temple in 2014. It was early morning and there was a haze rising from the desert and the river Nile that surrounded the temple. As the sun rose it appeared bright red, as in the ancient paintings.
In the mystery school teachings, the red sun is a sign of awakening. There are many references to the awakened soul in the ancient Egyptian Pyramid Texts and the book of the dead. The journey of awakening is represented by Horus, the spiritual warrior, who overcomes Set, representing the forces of chaos, within him and in the world. In his confrontation with Set, Horus loses his left eye, the conditioned vision and receives the all seeing eye, the enlightened vision from Ra, the red sun. Horus, as the enlightened spirit, is as radiant as the sun. In his awakened state he is described as, “the sun of the Eastern Horizon,” – the sun that rises in the East, the red morning sun that dispels the long dark night.

Horus symbolises the warrior who overcomes the forces of chaos that deprive him of his Divine connection. In the myths, he is deprived of his sovereignty, his crown. The crown, located on the crown chakra, is a symbol of kingship and of spiritual sovereignty, the sovereignty that is attained through spiritual awakening.
In ancient Egypt, every human being was seen as Horus. The Pharaoh, was responsible for exercising enlightened government that held chaos at bay in everyday life. However, it is a misconception that Horus was only embodied by the Pharaoh. In earlier times, the Pharaoh represented the people of Egypt. Therefore it was not just the ruler or King who is Horus but every person who is alive. In death, the soul became Osiris, who ruled in the spiritual realms. This is who we all become after passing through the veil into the light.

The ancient Initiates intended, though a life of spiritual practice, to become the awakened Horus, to embody Oneness, whilst living. When Horus overcomes the chaotic forces within him and in the world and rises like the sun of the East, he proclaims he is one with everything. He says “Sothis, the Sirius star, is my sister and the morning star, Venus, is my offspring.1”
Becoming the Living Sun - Channelling from Isis
These ancient myths that describe awakening and Oneness, are as relevant today as they were thousands of years ago. Our world and life circumstances may have changed, but our human journey towards awakening and ascension remains the same. And so, my helping spirit, the ancient Egyptian Goddess, Isis or ISET, offers us this channelling.
“Inside each of you there is a great power and light. This is why the ancients said that human beings are incarnated gods. When you step into your power, the chaotic forces cannot rise up against you, they completely dissolve, as if they have never been. The Utchat, the all-seeing eye, opens within you, and dispels all that is untrue and false. As you see clearly, the conditioning of the planet falls away. This is the awakened state that calls you back, for it is your birthright.
Many before you have sought the light, but they have pursued it by acquiring esoteric knowledge, information, and enriching the workings of their mind. Valuable as this knowledge has been, it can only take you so far. The path that others travelled can teach you much. And yet, more than ever, it is vital that you engage with the wisdom of your heart centre, the all-knowing part of you that is Divine Love. Do not underestimate the power of Divine Love. No matter how much you learn, how much you practice spiritual teachings, there is little progress without the heart connection. Awakening cannot happen through the mind alone.
You may think that you know so much. And the more you think you know, the less you actually do. Observe how some people in your community who have read few books, and may have little learning, go out of their way each day to help others. These people know something that you will never discover in your libraries. Knowledge is not wisdom.
Those who followed Thoth understood that knowledge alone is not enough, and it may even become dangerous. Do you think it is the first time in human civilisation that scientists experimented without caution in pursuit of knowledge? This human predicament is ancient. The ancient Egyptians who followed Thoth were initiates of the mystery, overcoming their pride and ego by serving the highest good of all life. Imagine how different your world would be if all the scientists worked solely in service to the highest good of all life.
There was a time in Earth’s history when this was so. The era that saw the construction of the pyramids was one of those times. It is described in myths as the time of the good king, the time of Osiris. If you look deeply into many of the myths and legends of those times, you will find Osiris in many forms, with many names.

Osiris is dismembered by the chaotic forces of your world, the insatiable mind that keeps expecting and taking. This hunger has plagued the children of the Earth. Even in your time, when you have so much in terns of material goods, this hunger for more is ever-present. And this hunger is not just consuming the Earth’s resources, it is consuming the majority of humanity. If you look at your life, you may be able to identify how you feed, consciously or unconsciously, the hunger of the chaotic forces.
To overcome this hunger, find the light that exists within you. This is not a new way, a new battle, a new endeavour. It is ancient. It has been happening throughout human history ever since the chaos literary killed the heart and deprived you of your power.
The ancient teachings of the Mysteries are not just stories. When you meditate on them they can reveal their hidden meanings that lie below the surface. Like the priests and priestesses of old, sit in the quiet space between your breaths. Let the light of your inner sun radiate through your mind, and dispel the darkness that has accumulated like a layer of dust, and dulled the pure golden light.
The path of the heart, that invites you to discover the power of your spirit, is the ancient pathway of light that leads you back to yourself. This path can be easily silenced by a mind that expects more and abandons the pearls of wisdom at the side of the road, in favour of shiny trinkets. The initiate steps onto this path towards inner truth, armed with patience, acceptance, self love, focus and perseverance. This is a road of twists and turns, a road of self-discovery. In this road you will discover many aspects of yourself. If you look closely you will see the shadow, the ego, the conditioned mind and identity. And you will also see your light.
May you remember you are the sun of the East, rising once more on the endless horizon, for you have no beginning and therefore no end, and you travel simultaneously on the Earth reality and in the infinite sky.”
Connecting with the Inner Sun
When I perform a soul retrieval healing, I become aware of the radiance of the human soul. My helping spirits say that the soul in the body has the same role as the sun in the sky, it enlivens and illuminates all our life endeavours. This is how the helping spirits describe the purpose of the soul:
“If you think of life on Earth, all of what you see around you would have been impossible without the power of the sun. Life as you know it, only exists on Earth because of the sun.
You come to Earth with so much potential, so many gifts. Within you there are many jewels, many treasures. Yet, without the radiance of your inner sun, without the light of the soul, these gems cannot shine. You need the sun’s rays to appreciate the radiance of gemstones.
Your inner sun, is your soul essence. Bring this light to everything you do, to every breath of your life. Do not keep your sun dimmed. Imbue with light all that you do, then your inner sun can truly shine. In the enlightened state you are the awakened Presence. You do not live life as if it was an accident that just happened. You are present with your soul in each moment. Even if this is not your reality now, make it your intention. Say to yourself and life, “May I awaken into the inner sun that I am.”
Visualisation
Imagine that inside your heart centre, your heart chakra, lies a radiant, luminous sun. This sun creates the conditions for all life to exist. It is incredibly bright, like nothing you have seen before, and spreads rays of life-force energy everywhere. This sun is your radiant soul that lives in your sacred heart.
The rays of this sun radiate light throughout your body. The rays touch every part of you, every organ, every tissue, and fill every cell of your body with life-force etheric energy. Every aspect of you is filled with your own light essence. There are no gaps. Nothing else exists within your body only the light of your soul essence. Your radiant soul illuminates every part of you and brings it to life. You are whole. You are complete. You are the radiant being incarnated.
See yourself as this radiant sun and welcome, acknowledge, and accept your light.Thank your soul for inhabiting your body in this luminous state. If you wish you can meditate in this space for a while.
